Prof. Pierre Bedossa

Pathology of NAFLD and relevance for clinical trials Pierre Bedossa is Professor of Pathology at the University Paris-Diderot, France. He is currently Head of the Department of Pathology, Physiology and Nuclear Medicine at the Groupe Hospitalier, Paris Nord, and Chairman and Head of the Department of Pathology at Beaujon Hospital, Paris. Professor Bedossa specializes in liver pathology, and leads both the METAVIR group and the Fatty Liver Inhibition of Progression (FLIP) pathology consortium. He has produced new scoring systems in chronic hepatitis and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and focuses his research on the dynamics of liver fibrosis, cellular mechanisms leading to progression and regression, and NAFLD. From 2001 to 2013, Professor Bedossa was Director of the Pathophysiology of Liver Diseases research team at the National Centre of Scientific Research (CNRS), and team leader of Cirrhosis and Liver Cancer Group at the Center for Biomedical Research, INSERM U773 in Paris. He was a member of the editorial board of Journal of Hepatology (1991–96), Hepatology (2001–06), Journal of Pathology (since 2002) and Associate Editor of Virchows Archiv of Pathology (2003–12). He has published more than 350 original articles in peer-reviewed journals and 16 book chapters. Professor Bedossa is the current president of the European Society of Pathology.
