Ikerbasque-AECC-CIC bioGUNE program for the recruitment of an Ikerbasque Research Fellow focused on cancer metabolism

CIC bioGUNE has established a strategic research line on translational oncology, which led to the development of the PREMETACAN program (Precision metabolism for next generation cancer management) funded by the AECC. This research program is built on two scientific goals: To ascertain the interaction between systemic and cancer metabolism To strengthen the area of cancer glycobiology As part of this strategy, we are aiming to recruit a talented young scientist to develop a research line in this topic. INSTITUTION: CIC bioGUNE (www.cicbiogune.es) POSITION: Researcher position. TYPE OF POSITION: Tenure track (Ikerbasque Research Fellow), full-time CONDITIONS: Tenure track, full-time position, based at CIC bioGUNE. Preferred starting date: Before December 2025. CIC bioGUNE opens applications for Doctoral Candidates (DC). Four FPI contracts, funded by the AEI (State Agency for Research, Spain) are open for applications from July 30TH. The positions will hold 4 years contract, social security, and health insurance. We welcome applications from motivated young scientists who wish to get their PhD degree in an international scientific environment in one of our laboratories awarded with a predoctoral grant, carrying out cutting-edge research in the frontiers between chemistry, biology, and biomedicine within a highly collaborative environment. More than 60 doctoral candidates are currently developing their PhD Thesis with us. Candidates should hold a degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Pharmacy, Medicine, or a related topic. They should have completed their MsC degree at the time of incorporation (expected last quarter 2025/first quarter 2026). PhD Position in Cancer Glycobiology laboratory at CIC bioGUNE

We seek a motivated PhD candidate to join “PreMetaCan AECC”, a cutting-edge project on cancer metabolism and precision medicine, working under the supervision of Dr. June Ereño-Orbea and Dr. Marco Piva at CIC bioGUNE, a Severo Ochoa Excellence research center in Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain. This position is part of a prestigious €2M Scientific Foundation of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) Excellence grant aimed at tackling systemic tumor-host metabolic interactions to advance precision oncology. We welcome applications from motivated young scientists with strong background in cellular and molecular biology. Candidates with experience in glycobiology, biochemistry, or structural biology are particularly encouraged to apply. Given the nature of the project, training in immunology is an advantage. Applicants should be willing to be trained in a highly collaborative environment within a multidisciplinary team. The selected candidate will join a fully funded 4-year PhD project, supported by the AECC Excellence Program, focused on deciphering the glycan landscape of tumor cells and the tumor microenvironment across various pathological contexts to uncover novel therapeutic targets.
