How to explain the loss of memory in Alzheimer disease

Prof. Jesús Ávila

Jesús Ávila is a research Professor at the CSIC in the "Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa", which he previously headed as the General Director. Professor Ávila obtained his PhD in Chemistry at the Universidad Complutense of Madrid. He is a member of the "Real Academia de las Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales", of the European Academy and EMBO. Professor Ávila’s work is focused on the study of microtubular proteins to determine the neuronal shape, the role of tau protein in neurodegenerative processes and on new ways of axonal regeneration. Professor Ávila has been the President of the " Sociedad Española de Bioquímica, Biología Celular y Biología Molecular". He has received, among others, the following awards: Prize Real Academia de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y de la Naturaleza, a medal from the University of Helsinky, Carmen y Severo Ochoa Foundation and  from the Comunidad de Madrid, Prize of Pfizer foundation, Prize of Lilly Foundation on Biomedical Research, National Prize Ramón y Cajal, and has been recently awarded the "Eladio Viñuela" Prize.
