Applications of the Brain-Behaviour Research to the Human Quality of Life

Applications of the Brain-Behaviour Research to the Human Quality of Life Neuropsychology is the science of brain-behaviour relationships. Our research lab is specialized in the development of measures of brain activity patterns related to both, normal and abnormal health. Cognitive decline is present in normal functioning but also associated to multiple medical situations. We have standardized reliable methods to measure the profiles of cognitive decline associated to independent life and quality of life. These profiles allow us to a better diagnoses, to choose adequate treatments, and to longitudinally follow-up the participants, including the prediction of disability and quality of life. We combine measurements of symptoms and behaviour with brain changes, both structural and functional changes. We work with clinical populations in Psychiatry disorders (i.e., psychotic episodes and schizophrenia), Neurological disorders (i.e., Parkinson´s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Normal and Abnormal Aging), and Preborn persons. We have developed evidence-based treatments to improve cognitive deficits and prevent decline that currently combine with non-invasive transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) methods. In normal population, these interventions have improve human abilities as creativity, the acquisition of language abilities and solution finding.
