Alejo Efeyan
Alejo Efeyan (Buenos Aires, 1977) obtained his degree in 2001 from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). His undergraduate work was performed at the Institute of Biology and Experimental Medicine (IBYME-CONICET) under the direction of Claudia Lanari and Alfredo Molinolo on a murine model of breast cancer. He obtained his PhD on Molecular Biology in 2007 from the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM), with the direction of Manuel Serrano, studying the tumor suppression by TP53 with genetically engineered mice. Alejo then joined the David M Sabatini Lab at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research at MIT for a postdoctoral position in 2008 where he developed novel mouse models to study mechanisms of nutrient sensing and responses in the context of mammalian organisms. Alejo joined the CNIO in January 2016 to study the interplay of nutrients, hormones and human disease. His training has been funded over the years by FPI and FPU fellowships, the Human Frontiers Science Program, the Simeon Fortin Charles King Trust, and his work is possible thanks to the Ramon y Cajal Program and a European Research Council Starting Grant.
