Association of cell cycle with translation machinery

Dr. Veronika Mikitova

Association of cell cycle with translation machinery I will describe my search for novel interactions between different cell cycle regulators and various translation initiation factors. I will show that CDKA-eIF4A interaction occurs only during specific stages of growth cycle and that eIF4A is also a phosphorylation substrate of CDKA. I used mutant eIF4A protein to characterize the effect of eIF4A phosphorylation by CDKA. The dramatic changes observed in the eIF4A-GFP localization of a phospho-null mutant suggest that CDKA phosphorylation might have strong effect on the intracellular distribution of eIF4A.
