Regulation of the subcellular localization and function of human deubiquitinases
Jose Antonio Rodriguez
Jose Antonio Rodriguez studied Biology at the UPV and obtained his PhD from the same University. He spent 3 years at the Westemead Institute for Cancer Research in Sydney working on the regulation of the breast cancer tumor suppressor protein BRCA1 with Dr. Beric Henderson. In 2001 he moved to Amsterdam, where he worked for 6 years at the Department of Medical Oncology of the Vrije Universiteit Medical Center with Dr. Giuseppe Giaccone. There he was involved in several projects, all related to the molecular mechanisms of tumor response/resistance to anticancer agents. Some of these projects dealt with regulation of apoptosis, mitosis, and the EGFR signal transduction pathway. Since his time in Australia, he has maintained an interest in the area of nucleocytoplasmic transport as a regulatory mechanism for several cellular processes. He came back to the UPV in March 2007 as lecturer in Genetics in the School of Medicine, within the Department of Genetics, Physical Anthropology and Animal Physiology. He is in a process of setting up a research group and has started two projects: one in deubiquitinating enzymes and another in the regulation of mitosis by the nuclear transport machinery.
