Breaking the limits of the application of NMR in glycan recognition: intact glycoproteins
CIC bioGUNE scientists have developed a novel NMR-based glycoprofile analysis of an intact glycoprotein under physiological conditions that allows the semiquantitative characterization of the protein decoration by N-glycans, unraveling an extra layer of functional complexity. The method allows to dissect the structure, conformation, dynamics, and molecular recognition features of the glycans attached at the glycoprotein in the native context, as key step for further exploration of the unambiguous detection of the specific glycan signatures found on tumor cells, which are considered as a novel type of immune checkpoint.
