Proteostatic Mechanisms in Health and Disease, The Final COST Action BM1307 Meeting 22-24 February 2018, Athens, Greece
The COST Action BM1307 PROTEOSTASIS coordinated by Dr. Rosa Barrio (group leader at CIC bioGUNE) organizes the 4th PROTEOSTASIS Action Meeting. This is the final meeting of the PROTEOSTASIS COST Action and it will be instrumental to decide the future of the network after the COST fund ends. The meeting will be open to all PROTEOSTASIS participant and to external researchers, companies, clinics and other target groups, which can benefit from the achievements of PROTEOSTASIS. The final meeting will be plural and multidisciplinary, giving voice to the COST target inclusiveness countries and to the young investigators, always under strict gender balance surveillance.
The Agenda includes talks from first line researchers in the field of protein homeostasis, including the Nobel Laureate Aaron Ciechanover. Numerous slots are available for selected talks among participants.
In the past, PROTEOSTASIS general meetings have been an important element for cohesion, initiation of collaborations and rising of initiatives. The dynamic interchange of ideas and the productive and enthusiastic atmosphere made of the meetings in Valencia, Croatia or Lisbon true successes. The purpose of this meeting is to channel this amazing and productive energy to preserve and enlarge the network in the future, capitalizing all the networking and the efforts already achieved.

About the project
The COST Action PROTEOSTASIS BM1307 is a European network that gathers 270 group members from almost all countries in Europe, and also USA and South Korea. Its main objective is to facilitate research and collaborations in the fields of Ubiquitin/Proteasome, Ubiquitin-likes, autophagy and lysosomal systems in health and diseases.
Intracellular proteolysis is not only critical for cell homeostasis but also relevant for many pathologies, such as cancer, immune diseases, neurological disorders, etc… Its role in almost every biological process has generated a huge interest among scientists with quite different backgrounds, which in turn has resulted into both a tremendous advance of our knowledge and an important fragmentation of the field. The Action coordinates and integrates the efforts made by European research teams to better understand protein homeostasis and to translate novel discoveries into products of clinical and/or economic value.

About CIC bioGUNE role
Dr Rosa Barrio is the Chair of the Action and also the Grant Holder. She is in charge of the scientific and administrative management of the Action.
Dr Rosa Barrio holds a PhD in Sciences from the Autonoma University of Madrid (Spain), who worked in first line European Institutions (CBMSO, EMBL, IMBB). Since December 2004 she has been in charge of the Laboratory 1 at the Functional Genomics Unit of CIC bioGUNE, where she develops her research on the role of SUMOylation and other ubiquitin-like modifiers during development. CIC bioGUNE holds the Severo Ochoa mention of excellence of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness of Spain.
