The award, presented during the ceremony held on May 29th in Santiago de Compostela, celebrates his exceptional commitment to oncological research and his role as a national reference in understanding the molecular biology of cancer.

Arkaitz Carracedo, Ikerbasque Research Professor and leader of the Cellular Signaling and Cancer Metabolism Research Group at CIC bioGUNE – member of BRTA – has been awarded the prestigious Ramiro Carregal Award for Emerging Talent in Oncological Research. This recognition, granted by the Board of the Ramiro Carregal International Oncological, Scientific, and Technical Research Award, celebrates Dr. Carracedo's outstanding contributions to the field of oncological research.

The presentation of this award took place at a solemn event on May 29th in Santiago de Compostela, coinciding with the celebration of the Ramiro Carregal International Oncological Research Award. This event, which brought together prominent figures from the political, social, academic, and scientific spheres, marked a milestone in the recognition of scientific and technical excellence in the fight against cancer.

The Ramiro Carregal Award for Emerging Talent in Oncological Research seeks to honor researchers who are emerging as leaders in the field and who are making significant contributions to advancing knowledge in the fight against cancer. In addition to highlighting his work, this award aims to inspire other young researchers to continue exploring and contributing to the understanding and treatment of this disease that affects so many people worldwide.

Dr. Carracedo has demonstrated exceptional commitment to oncological research throughout his career. His contributions to understanding the molecular biology of cancer have been widely recognized, and his ability to make significant contributions to the field of biomedicine has been praised both nationally and internationally.

The jury of the Ramiro Carregal Award highlights Dr. Carracedo's "significant contribution to the understanding of the molecular biology of cancer" and his "ability to make significant contributions to the field of biomedicine sustainably over time and in various research settings." Furthermore, his "relatively short career has positioned him as a national reference in cancer."

Dr. Carracedo, who is also an associate professor at the University of the Basque Country, has been praised for his brilliant career, creativity, and dynamic way of working. His publications in the most prestigious international journals serve as an objective measure of the excellence of his research.

About CIC bioGUNE
The Centre for Cooperative Research in Biosciences (CIC bioGUNE), member of the Basque Research & Technology Alliance (BRTA), located in the Bizkaia Technology Park, is a biomedical research organisation conducting cutting-edge research at the interface between structural, molecular and cell biology, with a particular focus on generating knowledge on the molecular bases of disease, for use in the development of new diagnostic methods and advanced therapies.

About Ikerbasque
Ikerbasque - Basque Foundation for Science - is the result of an initiative of the Department of Education of the Basque Government aimed at reinforcing the commitment to scientific research through the attraction, recovery, and consolidation of excellent researchers from around the world. Currently, it is a consolidated organization with 290 researchers, who carry out their work in all fields of knowledge.

About BRTA
BRTA is an alliance of 4 collaborative research centres (CIC bioGUNE, CIC nanoGUNE, CIC biomaGUNE y CIC energiGUNE) and 13 technology centres (Azterlan, Azti, Ceit, Cidetec, Gaiker, Ideko, Ikerlan, Leartiker, Lortek, Neiker, Tecnalia, Tekniker y Vicomtech) with the main objective of developing advanced technological solutions for the Basque corporate fabric.

With the support of the Basque Government, the SPRI Group and the Provincial Councils of the three territories, the alliance seeks to promote collaboration between the research centres, strengthen the conditions to generate and transfer knowledge to companies, contributing to their competitiveness and outspreading the Basque scientific-technological capacity abroad.

BRTA has a workforce of 3,500 professionals, executes 22% of the Basque Country's R&D investment, registers an annual turnover of more than 300 million euros and generates 100 European and international patents per year.
