Highlights
A new Strategic Plan (2022-2025) has been presented to the general Board of CIC bioGUNE in November 2021.
CIC bioGUNE investigators publish more than 200 publications in 2021. More than 30% have been presented in D1 Journals. CIC publications are cited more than 9000 times in 2021.
CIC bioGUNE investigators file 5 EPO and 1 PCT applications.
CIC bioGUNE researchers are awarded with 58 new competitive R+D projects, funded by public and private institutions. 171 R+D projects are running along 2021.
Mauro D'Amato joins CIC bioGUNE as Group Leader of the Gastrointestinal Genetics Lab.
CIC bioGUNE renews the certification as "Agente Científico Tecnológico" of the Basque Network of Science, Technology and Innovation as well as its AAALAC seal for the animal facility.
CIC bioGUNE approves its new Equality Plan.
The Mixed Laboratory for Translational Research in Prostate Cancer is created through the alliance os CIC bioGUNE with OSI Basurto Hospital and Biocruces Bizkaia Health Institute.
ATLAS MOLECULAR PHARMA. S.L., spin-off company of CIC bioGUNE, finishes a round of share capital increase above 3 M€, to enter into the Clinical Phases I & II of its drug to treat Congenital Erythropoietic Porphyria.
CIC bioGUNE researchers participate in teaching tasks in the Medicine Degree at the University of Deusto, coordinating subjects in the first and second year.
Our Prion Diseases lab has been incorporated to the Infectious Diseases CIBER of Carlos III Health Institute.
CIC bioGUNE has kept its working capacity during the second year of the pandemic, establishing a specific plan that combines responsibility, safety, and focused research. Massive PCR and antibody analysis for all the members have been periodically carried out. Several collaborative projects on COVID-19, integrating 12 CIC bioGUNE research groups and different institutions and agents have continued to be developed during 2021. Seven publications on COVID-19-related topics have been presented along the year.
CIC bioGUNE keeps its position within the top 100 NPO/NGO Institutions worldwide (position 48th) in Life Sciences, according to Nature Index 2021.
CIC bioGUNE continues with its strategic plan to keep and reinforce the key infrastructures: new actions for acquisition of diverse equipment have been carried out, including the purchase of equipment for Biolayer Interferometry, Mosquito for X-Ray diffraction, fluorescence cytometer, MALDI TOF/TOF, HPLC-MS, together with the update of the animal facility. Moreover, CIC bioGUNE has purchased new spaces (980 m2) at Building 800 of the Bizkaia Technology Park. A proposal to renew one of the NMR consoles at the NMR platform (Singular Infrastructure of the State) has been granted.
Despite the pandemic, the introductory week (October 4-8) for the new Doctoral Candidates at CIC bioGUNE has been delivered in person with great success.
Competitive funding at CIC bioGUNE surpasses 14 M€, more than 2/3 of total funding. Private funding goes beyond 30% of total funding.
