Address: Bizkaia Science and Technology Park, building 800, Derio (Bizkaia)

Tammo Diercks obtained his MSc in Chemistry from the University of Heidelberg and continued his scientific career with a PhD on NMR spectrostropic analyses of the structure and dynamics of proteins at the Institute for Organic Chemistry & Biochemistry, TU München, Germany.

From 2000 to 2001, Dr. Diercks continued working as a research scientist with Prof. Horst Kessler, focusing on the development of NMR methodology for protein structure analysis. During this time, he co-founded Novaspin Biotech in Freising, Germany, a company dedicated to NMR-based drug discovery and development. As a key player in the company's foundation, he was responsible for preparing the business plan, assembling the team, participating in the financing talks, and launching the first NMR projects for customers.

From 2001 to 2002, Dr. Diercks served as the Head of the NMR department at Novaspin Biotech where he developed, patented, and applied NMR screening techniques, conducted structural analyses of ligand-target complexes, and led various service-for-fee and in-house research projects.

In early 2003, Dr. Diercks returned to the academic world and expanded his expertise as a visiting scientist at the Swedish NMR Center in Göteborg, working with Profs. Vladislav Orekhov and Göran Carlsson on NMR binding studies of azurin and p53DBD. He also contributed to methodological developments aimed at enhancing NMR sensitivity for proteins. From 2003 to 2007, he continued his research at the Bijvoet Center for Biomolecular Research at Utrecht University in the Netherlands, collaborating with Profs. Rob Kaptein and Rolf Boelens. There, he served as an NMR spectroscopist for the Structural Proteomics in Europe (SPINE) consortium and the European NMR Large Scale Facility Utrecht, focusing on NMR structure determination of various proteins and developing further methodology to enhance and accelerate NMR experiments.

In 2007, Dr. Diercks joined CIC bioGUNE as the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Platform Manager, where he is in charge of the installation, maintenance, and scientific supervision of the NMR facility that now includes seven instruments ranging from 80 MHz to a 1 GHz spectrometer. His responsibilities also involve user training and support, the development, implementation, and optimization of NMR methods, and participation in both independent and collaborative research projects. Under his leadership the unit, certified as a Unique Scientific Technical Facility (ICTS) of the State, has become an international reference in NMR research, advancing personalized and precision medicine through drug design, biomarker identification, and the analysis of diseases and aging.
